Genalguacil is a one of the many gorgeous white villages, the pueblos blancos, of the Serrania de Ronda. It has a church, town hall, bank, chemist and primary school as well as three shops and several bars and restaurants.There is also a limited postal service. The doctor is in the village 4 mornings a week and otherwise 24hour healthcare is available in Algatocin, 14km away.
Every two years a now famous Art Festival is held in Genalguacil. This year, 2010, it will take place from 1 - 15 August. During each Festival, the several artists-in-residence each produce a work of art which is left in the village, maybe as an outdoor sculpture or a painting in the museum.
Genalguacil is about 42 kilometres from Ronda and about the same distance from Estepona and the Costa del Sol. As these are mountain roads, the journey takes an hour or so. Malaga airport is about 2hrs 30 minutes away.
